SEEDS is an innovative research organization that considers the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century. Therefore, during our regular annual research meetings, we have considered a variety of inclusive approaches to promote supportive collaboration and meaningful learning. The Summer Institute Without Walls is the next step in our efforts to provide SEEDS members with unique opportunities to share their work and gain new knowledge through culturally immersive experiences.

To this end, the Summer Institute – SEEDS (SI-SEEDS) without walls will provide opportunities for members to engage in critical discussions and exchange of research work focused on enhancing the critical teaching and learning of environmentally-related issues (e.g., climate change, sustainability, green energy, rural communities-led fair labor, sustainable practices, place-based knowledge informed practices, and so on). Thus, environmental education, broadly defined here, is seen as a tool to achieve ecojustice; that is, a justice-centered approach for sustainable development that respects and protects the interdependence between human beings and their environment.
